Today was devoted to visiting gardens. Hidcote and Kiftsgate. Conveniently for us, they are located practically next door to each other. Before setting out, the garden spirit had already set in as you can see in this perspective to someone's house. At least I think that is what this photo is of:
Again I will leave the major narration to Alex and Alex most especially because my photos pale in comparison to Alex's, but I have a few favorite moments to share. There was absolutely charming topiary at Hidcote. Some of the delightful expressions of this are doorways cut into hedges. In this case, an entire house:
Hidcote, IMO, is the epitome of the English Garden. All kinds of things you think might not "go" together do, and so beautifully:

On the way back to Chipping Campden, we discussed our opinions of the two gardens. Hidcote is more a gorgeous series of displays and Kiftsgate Court Gardens more a garden that belongs to a home, a very wealthy home. But I urge you to read a fuller account in Alex's blog.
